You know you are hooked on Family History when:-

CEMETERIES

  • your 5 year old daughter points out cemeteries whenever we're in the car and asks if we've got any dead people in each cemetery. ~ you are on vacation and your children yell "Speed up Dad" when they see a cemetery in the distance.

  • you hyperventilate at the sight of an old cemetery.

  • you'd rather browse in a cemetery than a shopping mall.

  • most of your holiday pictures were taken in a cemetery.
your only outdoors activity is traipsing through cemeteries.

  • you send Christmas cards with a picture of a cemetery on it

  • you are at your father's funeral and you ask people you have never met, "And your parents are who?"

  • you have to update your genealogy files BEFORE you attend the funeral of a family member.

  • you drive through the county of your family's origin and the car keeps breaking at each cemetery regardless of who is buried there.

  • you open the trunk of your car to place the groceries and always you have to explain to the policeman that you didn't see his blue lights or hear his siren because you were busy looking at directions to the lost cemetery.

You know you are Hooked on Family History when:-

ARCHIVES
  • you plan your holiday from work to go to an archive.
  • you buy a lap top computer just to have for visiting the archives.
  • your children buy you a bumper sticker that says "Get out of my way, the archives opens at 9:00 a.m."
  • you arrive at the out-of-town archives having the most data about your lineage and the staff greets you by first and last name.
  • a private investigator visiting the archives wants to hire you full time because you know how to find dead people better than he does.

English Catholic Records in the 19th and 20th Centuries.

The eighteenth century was a period of change. The government's fears of an armed rebellion, possibly supported by the Catholic community, materialised in the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion. This was supported by some of the younger sons of Catholic gentry. Then there was the second Jacobite Rebellion in 1745, though this did not get the same Catholic support.

Useful Websites
A link to the Chorley Family History Research Centre's Website Hub and a list of websites submitted by members

LFHHS Name search
Over the last forty years, LFHHS members have transcribed millions of records which have then been published on microfiche, in booklets, on websites and on CDs.
This list will become the central index to find where a given name can be found and then to provide details of how the record can be accessed whether on fiche, CD, book or website.
It does not replace the existing record but it will provide a lead to what records we have for a given name and where the information can be found.
As a first step, we are adding our CDs then other sources will follow. We expect it will be a work in progress for several years.

Certificate Search
Our Certificate search provides details of certificate donated to the Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society, which are available to purchase. Once you find a certificate you will have the option to submit a request to purchase the certificate.

Surname Index Search
Our Surname Interest search provides details of surnames being researched by members of the Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society, usually specifying a particular period and county, and often a locality within the county.
Once you find a surname you will have the option to submit a request to the researching member for collaboration.

Access to Pedigrees
This service is only available to current members of the society.
